Who we are

Several years ago, citizen volunteers formed Friends of Sydney Park.  These folks have worked with city officials to develop a  park plan that met the needs of the community, and implemented the Phase 1 changes you see today.  These changes included the planting beds at the north and south ends, new benches to replace the broken ones, the doggie-bag dispenser, and the trash receptacles.    As an authorized partner of the EnRichmond Foundation, Friends of Sydney Park can process charitable donations that are deductible in compliance with IRS regulations.   We  can even accept credit card donations at Donate to the Friends of Sydney Park through their secure server - to keep up with maintenance efforts, potentially fund Phase Two Redevelopment, including a new fence and path.    The Fan Woman’s Club Neighborhood Improvement Committee and the Fan District Association’s Parks and Trees Committee are joining forces for this annual Spring/Fall event to deploy as many volunteers as possible to all of our neighborhood parks in an effort to supplement seasonal maintenance activities completed by the City.  The end result will be a sense of pride in our neighborhood parks as a valuable resource and treasured green space and, even more importantly, a broader use of neighborhood parks as a public community asset.

Sydney Park Clean up

Lee up in the tree at the last park clean up

We Need YOU!

Set aside a few hours and go to Sydney Park !  A coordinator will assign tasks to volunteers in priority order.  Wear sturdy shoes; bring gloves, garden tools, rakes, shovels, pruners, wheel barrows, spades, brooms, any implements at your disposal to make the job easier.  We’ll be weeding, mulching, picking up trash/litter (especially all those cigarette butts!), raking, and an assortment of tasks.  Volunteer alongside your neighbors and friends to build a strong sense of community, relish in the Fall air, and play in the dirt.  We’ll be taking before, during, and after photos for publication in Fanfare and on the FDA website – so wear your brightest smile!
